Welcome to the library!

The Cambridge Friends School library is the heart of our school, and it is a very busy and vibrant place. Students, teachers, administrators, and parents and guardians come each day to use our resources, to attend classes and meetings, and to ask for reference help and suggestions for the next great book to read.

The materials in the library’s collection are chosen to further the mission of the school and to reflect, support, and enrich the school’s curriculum and anti-bias work. Books are also chosen to support and encourage the students’ own reading for pleasure - an important part of the mission of the library program is to inspire children to be life-long and enthusiastic readers.

Students are welcome whenever their schedules permit to read, browse, study, or select books to sign out. The library is a community resource, and we invite and encourage parents and guardians to visit the library and to borrow from our collection.

Author visits are an exciting part of the library program. Every year, accomplished authors and illustrators are invited to meet with our students to discuss their work and the publishing process. To prepare for these visits, the students read, listen to, and discuss examples of the author’s work.

Students in all grades have regular library classes. The library curriculum is designed so that each year’s learning and reading build on the work done in earlier grades.

To view the library curriculum for each grade, please visit the curriculum section and select the library department.
