While popular media would have you believe that there are few benefits to using social media in educational settings, Rey Junco's work has shown otherwise. Join us as we hear from Rey, author of the book “Engaging Students Through Social Media.” Drawing upon his years of research and data collection regarding student technology use, Rey will explain how social networks can be used to not only disseminate general school information, but can also provide a platform for schools to improve engagement, academic performance, and persistence amongst students. Rey will talk about how youth already use social media for informal learning and how educators can help promote these uses, minimize the negative ones, and incorporate social media into formal learning settings.
