Cross-grade buddy groups meet with their buddies throughout the year to do activities, or for Meeting for Worship. The buddy groups allow students to share in a greater sense of community within the larger school. The younger students appreciate the individual attention they receive from their buddies, and older students enjoy being in a mentoring role with younger students and revisiting materials, spaces, and activities from their earlier years. Older students offer support during activities and model social and learning behaviors for younger students.

A number of buddy group activities give the students an opportunity to explore important themes within the school’s mission while working together. Students may examine their different and shared experiences of family, learn more about issues of social justice, and find ways to work together to confront oppression in their world.
